Sertex Crews Restore DV Fiber Service After Back-to-Back Vermont Outages

Sertex Restores DV Fiber Service After Back-to-Back Vermont Outages is the topic of this post, focusing on the recent events and response to disruptions in internet connectivity.

Two summer outages in Halifax and Readsboro tested Sertex crews with overnight emergency response, challenging field access, precision splicing, and coordinated line construction to restore essential broadband service.

On the evening of Saturday, June 27, DV Fiber contacted Sertex after one of its main network hubs in Marlboro, Vermont, went offline, interrupting internet service across several fiber service areas. Sertex immediately dispatched a line crew and two technicians, who arrived around midnight to begin testing, troubleshooting, and emergency restoration work.

Emergency Response in Halifax

With the cause of the outage unknown, crews began testing to isolate the damage. Troubleshooting narrowed the affected area to Halifax, where a team searched on foot through a heavily wooded easement in the dark. They eventually located the cause: a fallen tree had damaged a critical fiber cable.

Line crews bushwhacked with equipment to access the damage site, climbed poles, and installed new fiber cable. Five splicing technicians completed 576 precision splices across two separate enclosures. More than 24 hours after the initial call, service was fully restored.

A Holiday Weekend Outage in Readsboro

Just one week later—on Saturday morning, the Fourth of July—DV Fiber reached out again. This time, service in Readsboro was interrupted, affecting some 50 customers. Sertex dispatched two crews, whose team members set aside their holiday plans to respond to the emergency. Crews arrived within two hours and quickly found a fallen tree that damaged nearby power lines.

An electrical arc and extreme heat from the fire melted the fiber cables below. Within hours, Sertex’s line construction crew had installed a new section of fiber to replace the damaged cable plant. Working throughout the day and into the night, technicians completed splicing at two locations, including 288 splices in each enclosure. By early Sunday morning, in less than 24 hours, Sertex restored service.

Committed to Keeping Communities Connected

These back-to-back restorations highlight more than technical expertise. They demonstrate the coordination, safety focus, and commitment required to keep essential broadband networks operating in real-world conditions. In both cases, Sertex employees traveled from Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, answered calls outside normal work hours, worked through the night and on weekends, and overcame challenging field conditions to restore service safely and efficiently.

Whether it is the middle of the night or the middle of a holiday weekend, Sertex teams are ready to respond. If your community, utility, or broadband network needs a trusted partner for emergency fiber restoration, network maintenance, or broadband construction, Sertex is ready to help keep critical connections online.
