Modernizing the Electric Transmission Infrastructure in the Northeast

OPGW Deployments

Sertex is one of a select few companies certified by regional suppliers to splice and test Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), All Dielectric Self Supporting (ADSS), and wrap cable systems such as the AFL Sky-Wrap.

Our specially trained teams are deployed throughout the northeast, working with electric partners in remote, difficult-to-reach locations in all-terrain environments.

In addition to assisting numerous electrical utility providers on new transmission line construction projects, Sertex also supports in maintaining and upgrading existing energized electrical transmission systems throughout New England and neighboring states. Our technicians are safety-trained and certified to work in live critical infrastructures, including substations and control houses.

345-Kv Projects

In the early 2000s, Sertex partnered with Northeast Utilities (now Eversource) and United Illuminating on critical infrastructure projects to strengthen transmission capacity in southwest and central Connecticut.

As a project team member, we furnished and installed 100 miles of fiber optic cable for the communications and temperature monitoring systems for the Bethel-Norwalk and Norwalk-Middletown transmission lines. NU won the 2006 Edison Award for the B-N project.

Sertex was also contracted by the French cable manufacturer Silec to splice and test the temperature-monitoring fibers beneath the jacket of the 345kV XLP cable.
